40% of Brazilians want to change jobs or companies in the next six months, LinkedIn report shows

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional social network, has just released a new edition of the Workforce Report, a study conducted with over 2,000 Brazilian professionals to analyze the current job market scenario. The report reveals that 40% of Brazilians want to change roles or companies in the next six months, a sign of career reassessment amid rapid market transformations, shifting corporate priorities, and the advancement of new technologies.

The report indicates that internal mobility is solidifying as a trend: among professionals seeking some change in the next six months, the majority intend to take on a new role within their current company. In 2023, only 2% expressed intentions to switch roles internally; in 2024, this number rose to 27%, and this year, it remains high at 22%, signaling that internal movement continues to be a relevant career development strategy.

“We are observing a maturation in how professionals view their careers. Many have embraced role transitions as a way to anticipate the demands of the new market. Internal mobility, once seen as an exception, is now becoming a development strategy. This trend reflects not only the desire for change but also the perception that growth within a company is possible, provided there is room for new roles and opportunities to acquire skills,” says Guilherme Odri, editor-in-chief of LinkedIn News Brazil.

Despite the strong intent to change, career transitions remain challenging. The report shows that over half of job seekers have been on this journey for more than six months – and, in 29% of cases, the search extends beyond a year. This scenario reflects an unbalanced job market: in Brazil, there is only one available job opening for every ten candidates, according to platform data, indicating a significant asymmetry between job supply and labor demand.

In response, adaptation efforts are increasing. LinkedIn platform data shows a more than 40% increase in the number of skills added to profiles of Brazilian professionals in the last year. For many, this trend is directly linked to openness to exploring new possibilities: 64% state they would be willing to switch to a different sector than their current one

“When we see such a significant leap in skill additions on the platform, we’re witnessing an important signal. It’s not just about updating profiles but seeking repositioning and readiness to navigate a constantly evolving market,” says Odri. “At the same time, we need to help people be more strategic in how they hire and are hired, including how we announce job openings. Today, we already know that 36% of professionals report difficulty even assessing whether an opportunity matches their qualifications”.

The willingness to change roles, switch sectors, and invest in developing new skills shows that mobility, whether internal or across industries, is solidifying as an adaptation and growth strategy. For both companies and talent, understanding this movement is essential: it guides decisions more aligned with current work dynamics and fosters more resilient, future-ready career paths.
