What makes the perfect image? Research reveals visual trends in Brazilian e-commerce

Photoroom presents the results of its 2025 research on AI Photo Editing, revealing the essential role high-quality images play in e-commerce sales conversion. While photos are central to purchasing decisions, maintaining visual consistency and quality across the entire catalog remains the biggest challenge for online retailers. The study mapped current practices and identified the 6 key visual trends shaping the industry:

  • 1) Update images every 3 to 6 months

Nearly half (49%) of professionals consider updating visuals every 3 to 6 months essential. This practice ensures products stay relevant, aligned with trends, and more appealing to digital consumers. In e-commerce, photography goes beyond product representation—it influences user experience and reinforces brand identity.

  • 2) Clean white backgrounds boost sales

For 39% of respondents, studio-style white backgrounds are most effective for conversion. The minimalist aesthetic highlights products, enhances details, and conveys professionalism. Besides standardizing catalogs, these backgrounds strengthen quality perception—a differentiator in information-saturated digital environments.

  • 3) 3-5 photos per product increase trust

Most online sellers (58%) use 3-5 images per product listing. Showing multiple angles provides a comprehensive view and builds consumer confidence during the buying journey. In Brazil, this practice is growing—multiple images increase transparency and reduce purchase decision doubts.

  • 4) Natural light enhances products

47% of surveyed brands identify natural light as the most effective lighting choice. Its ability to improve color accuracy, reduce shadows, and convey authenticity makes it favored by professionals—especially in fashion, food, and decor where visuals are decisive.

  • 5) Visible model faces create emotional connection

64% of sellers ensure model faces are visible in images. Showing human faces builds trust and emotional rapport, helping customers envision using the product. In aspirational categories like apparel and accessories, this connection often determines conversions.

  • 6) Studio photos drive social media engagement

40% of respondents say studio product images generate the most social media engagement. Their clarity, focus, and professional aesthetic quickly capture attention and encourage sharing—strengthening visual identity, as noted in prior Photoroom analyses.

The research confirms that the perfect image combines quality, strategy, and trend awareness to shape consumer experiences and boost sales. Investing in image enhancement tools and modern photography techniques yields significant returns, especially for entrepreneurs, designers, and marketers.

Matt Rouif, Photoroom’s CEO and co-founder, emphasizes: “In an increasingly competitive market, creating perfect images isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a strategy directly impacting conversion rates. Consumers need immediate product connection, and photography is how we deliver that feeling clearly and precisely.”
