Tourism E-commerce Reaches 239 Million Visitors in December, Ranking Shows

Brazil’s e-commerce tourism sector closed 2024 with significant numbers, according to data released by Conversion, a company specialized in e-commerce data analysis. In December, the sector recorded a total of 239 million unique visitors, representing a growth of 4.8% compared to the same month the previous year.

The survey, which considers the main market players such as Decolar, Booking.com, CVC, Submarino Viagens, and Hurb, highlights the consistent recovery of tourism after the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of unique visitors in December 2024 surpassed that of the same period in 2022 by 12.3%, a year when the sector still faced challenges related to health restrictions.

Among the analyzed companies, Decolar maintained its leadership in the ranking with 49.2 million unique visitors in December, a growth of 6.1% compared to the previous year. Following were Booking.com (45.7 million), CVC (38.4 million), Submarino Viagens (35.2 million), and Hurb (29.8 million).

The study also revealed changes in consumer behavior, with an increase in demand for national destinations and short-distance trips. The categories with the highest growth were lodging and car rentals, with increases of 8.3% and 7.1%, respectively, compared to December 2023.

For Mariana Souza, an analyst at Conversion, the numbers reflect the sector’s adaptation to travelers’ new demands. “Companies have been investing in technology and personalization, offering increasingly comprehensive and convenient experiences for users. Additionally, the appreciation of domestic tourism and proximity trips has boosted e-commerce growth in the sector,” she states.

The expectation is that tourism e-commerce will maintain its growth trend throughout 2025, driven by the return of consumer confidence and the consolidation of new consumption habits. According to Conversion projections, the sector is expected to generate around R$62 billion this year, a 15% increase compared to 2024.

The strengthening of e-commerce in tourism has also attracted new investors and fostered strategic partnerships among sector companies. Recently, CVC announced the acquisition of the travel startup Guiando, with the aim of expanding its presence in the customized trips and local experiences market.

Given this positive scenario, companies in the sector continue to bet on innovation and improving user experience to stand out in an increasingly competitive market. The trend is that e-commerce will become increasingly relevant for Brazilian tourism, driving the sector’s recovery and growth in the coming years.
