New Brazilian AI promises to cut 15% of energy costs in retail

Sometimes, energy waste happens without anyone noticing. A cold room door left ajar, an air conditioner that keeps running even after everyone has left work, a light left on where it wasn’t needed, or a simple wrong setpoint in a controller. It may seem minor, but when we’re talking about supermarkets and large retailers, these ‘small oversights’ turn into millions of reais lost every year. Besides energy costs, these habits reduce equipment lifespan, making them work harder than they should—meaning more maintenance, more replacements, and more losses.

In this context, NEO Estech, a data intelligence platform applied to equipment management and monitoring, announces the launch of NEO Lume, its own artificial intelligence for data analysis and technical support, operating 24/7. In practice, the technology automates monitoring of refrigeration, air conditioning, energy and water consumption, power generators, and fire suppression systems, acting predictively and proactively.

Among other actions, the AI will be able to interpret data from monitored sensors, facilitating decision-making. While NEO Estech automatically monitors equipment and opens tickets for anomalies, NEO Lume allows users to interact directly with this information through natural language. For example, you could ask: “Which equipment has had open tickets for more than three days?”“Which equipment spends the most time with doors open?”, report bugs or even request changes to system schedules and settings during the conversation. The AI understands context, identifies the originating installation, and makes data interpretation much more accessible and practical.

According to NEO Estech CEO Sami Diba, the technology is a direct result of over five years of operations and data collection, also gathered with proprietary technology. The company already serves major chains like Carrefour, Atacadão, Savegnago, Tauste, and Confiança. This history enabled the development of a model trained on real cases, technical documents, manuals, and thousands of accumulated human interactions.

“We know retail operates on details—and often, it’s precisely these details that go unnoticed. Lume was created based on them. It understands context, learns from daily operations, and delivers practical intelligence to the client. It anticipates problems, prevents waste, and directly contributes to the business’s financial health. Creating Lume was a strategic decision: not just for efficiency gains, but because scaling quality technical support with this breadth would be impossible with people alone,” says Sami Diba, CEO of NEO Estech.

The AI will support five languages—Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, and Italian—like the company’s other solutions. According to the CEO, the goal is to support the startup’s internationalization strategy, as it’s already present in six countries.
