Meal kits take center stage in Brazil’s delivery market

Meal kits have established themselves as one of the most dynamic and promising segments of the delivery market in Brazil. According to a 2024 survey by iFood, Brazilian cuisine, strongly represented by this type of dish, leads lunchtime orders with 38% of the total, followed by snacks. 

In the overall ranking, meal kits occupy the sixth position among the most ordered cuisines on the platform. In restaurants classified as “super,” this category ranks eighth, reinforcing its growing relevance in the sector. 

This demand reflects significant changes in consumer behavior. During the 36th Abrasel Congress, expert Sérgio Molinari analyzed: ‘Meal kits represent the balance between the pursuit of convenience and the appreciation of Brazilian gastronomy. This market combines tradition and modernity, especially in the context of delivery.’ 

The study also revealed other important trends. For breakfast, bakery cuisine dominates, with 54% of orders in the second quarter of 2024. At lunch, besides meal kits, snacks also have a strong presence. In the afternoon and evening, snacks and açaí stand out, while late at night, snacks lead with an impressive 70% of order volume. 

Molinari also emphasizes how this data highlights the increasing diversification of consumer choices throughout the day and reinforces the importance of a varied offering to meet different demands. According to him, restaurants that invest in customized solutions, efficient logistics, and menus tailored to diverse audiences can achieve significant results.  

The expert further points out that another factor contributing to the success of meal kits is their flexibility. The range varies from simple, affordable options to premium meals with sophisticated ingredients and a focus on health. This versatility aligns with global consumption trends, where convenience, customization, and quality are competitive differentiators. 

The meal kit market in Brazil emerges as a strategic opportunity for bars and restaurants seeking to expand their operations. For consumers, meal kits solidify as a practical and tasty option, combining tradition and innovation in every meal while meeting everyday demands.
