During Traffic Accident Awareness Month, iFood presents the results of a year of strategic actions with Vision Zero, its dedicated traffic safety initiative. Among the key achievements is a 20% increase in deliveries made within the speed limit, a result of using advanced technology and personalized incentives that promote responsible driving.
The creation of Vision Zero reinforces iFood’s commitment to minimizing risks in urban mobility. As part of this effort, the company considers speeding one of the most concerning factors for fatalities and serious traffic accidents. To tackle this issue, iFood implemented the “Safe Driving Indicator,” a tool that monitors delivery speeds in relation to the legal limits of each road.
Based on telemetry data, personalized communications, and strategies inspired by international models, 95,000 delivery riders were impacted by actions that improved their road conduct. Varying between different incentives and profiles, initiatives included: motivational and educational messages about specific route dangers; bonuses for riders who maintained safe driving throughout deliveries; and both in-person and online training via the Decola Safety platform. All yielded positive results.
The results show significant progress not only in adopting safer behaviors but also in using data to contribute to public policies. “In Brazil, traffic remains a significant challenge for road safety, with thousands of lives lost every year. Our delivery riders face these risks daily, which is why our initiatives go beyond delivery safety. They also generate valuable data that can contribute to public policies aimed at making mobility safer for everyone,” says Rafael Tartaroti, iFood’s Traffic Safety Manager.
Expansion of Vision Zero and New Features
Building on its achievements, this year iFood will expand safety initiatives to all platform delivery riders in Brazil. The goal is to integrate Safe Driving into motorcyclists’ daily routines, increasingly encouraging responsible behavior practices.
New features include developing additional risk monitoring to identify unsafe maneuvers like sudden accelerations, harsh braking, and dangerous turns. iFood is also exploring ways to map potential red-light violations. These indicators will be part of the next phase of Vision Zero and will be available in iFood’s Safety Hub, where riders can track their performance, access courses, receive alerts, and earn bonuses for complying with safe traffic practices.
“The results demonstrate that it’s possible to combine logistical efficiency with safer traffic. The 20% increase in speed-compliant deliveries confirms that technology, education, and financial incentives can transform urban mobility. Businesses, public authorities, and society must act together to ensure safer roads for everyone,” concludes Tartaroti.
