According to data from the latest analysis of the Edenred Freight Road Freight Index (IFR), based on exclusive data from the Edenred Repom platform, the average freight price per kilometer traveled in the country recorded a slight negative variation of 0.14% in April compared to March. The national average went from R$ 7.35 to R$ 7.34, marking the second consecutive month of decline.
“This new decline reflects a moment of waiting in the economy. In April, the main sectors that influence demand for transportation, such as industry, agriculture, and construction, did not show significant movements. This translated into little variation in the prices charged,” explains Vinicios Fernandes, Director of Edenred Freight.
Another factor that may have contributed to the decline is the reduction in diesel prices at gas stations. According to the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), common diesel had an average price of R$ 6.38 in April, with a 1.85% drop compared to March. The S-10 type was sold at R$ 6.44, after a 1.83% decline.
“Diesel is one of the main costs of road transport, so reductions like those observed in April help to alleviate operational costs and can directly reflect on freight values. With new downward adjustments, there is a possibility of impact also on the minimum freight floor table, causing new variations in the coming months,” adds Fernandes.
