Freight rates drop 0.54% in March, the first decline since November, reports Edenred Repom

According to data from the latest Edenred Repom Freight Index (IFR) analysis, the average freight price per kilometer traveled in March was R$ 7.35 in the country, representing a slight decrease of 0.54% compared to February. This is the first drop in the average price recorded by IFR since November 2024.

“Despite observed factors that typically push freight rates upward, such as the increase in the minimum freight table and the beginning of the harvest season, the IFR recorded a slight decline in March. Although the slowdown in the industrial sector has a more significant impact on the manufacturing industry, it’s important to note that commodities continue to show positive results. Additionally, the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL) indicated a slight decrease in diesel prices at gas stations in March compared to February, a factor that may have also contributed to easing operational costs and impacting the values in road transport,” analyzes Vinicios Fernandes, director of Edenred Repom.

In the coming months, the freight price trend will remain linked to a combination of economic variables. “The reduction in diesel prices at refineries announced by Petrobras, effective since April 1st, may bring further relief to transport operational costs, while the performance of sectors such as agribusiness and the extractive industry should continue to impact the pace of hiring in the sector and the values charged per kilometer traveled,” concludes Fernandes.

The IFR is an index of the average freight price and its composition, compiled based on the 8 million annual freight and toll voucher transactions managed by Edenred Repom. Edenred Repom, a brand under Edenred Brazil’s Mobility business line, has specialized for 30 years in managing and paying expenses for the road freight transport market, leading the freight and toll payment segment with 8 million annual transactions and serving over 1 million truck drivers across Brazil.
