Brazilian creates ‘Netflix for immigrants’ to make life easier for those moving to the US

Data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reveals that in 2023, 28,050 Brazilians obtained a green card—the U.S. permanent residency document. This marks the highest number in history and the fourth consecutive record in the last five years. Additionally, 12,570 Brazilians were naturalized in the same year, placing Brazil as the 16th country with the highest number of recipients of this benefit.

Amid this growing immigration flow to America, a Brazilian entrepreneur created the Viva Academy, a digital platform that aims to be the ‘Netflix for immigrants,’ offering various videos and interactive content to address the main doubts and challenges faced by those seeking to establish a new life in the U.S.

The platform offers content tracks that explain, for example, how immigrants can buy or rent a house, hire insurance, enroll their children in school, obtain a scholarship, secure financing, create a resume in English, get a driver’s license, and validate their diploma, among other possibilities.

Viva Academy’s mission is to simplify the immigrant journey by offering a unique methodology based on real case studies and content taught by experts. For an annual subscription of R$1,197, users gain access during that period to a collection of hundreds of videos on a wide range of topics, which are expected to total 200  hours of content by the end of the year.

“Our goal is to make life easier for these immigrants by providing information, knowledge, and security, eliminating the uncertainties surrounding the immigration process. Viva Academy is more than a platform; it’s a community that supports and inspires,” says Angelo Whosoever, founder of Viva Academy.

The platform, available on the web and via Android and iOS apps, is 100% digital, ensuring easy and practical access from anywhere. New content tracks are released monthly, keeping users updated. Additionally, subscribers gain access to exclusive discounts from partner expert services, such as visa assistance, educational consulting, and psychologists.

Weekly, Viva Academy hosts live sessions with experts to keep users informed about immigration updates, allowing immigrants to ask questions in real-time.

From Theory to Practice

The idea for Viva Academy emerged from Whosoever’s own immigration process, which took about two years and resulted in the approval of his Form I-140 in 2024—the first step before the final issuance of the green card.

“Throughout my research and conversations with others, I realized there are bureaucratic and cultural hurdles beyond the green card that need to be overcome. That’s why I decided to create a platform that not only guides immigrants through the process but also helps them integrate and thrive in the U.S. even before leaving Brazil.”

With plans to expand the library to over 500 videos and reach 10,000 registered users by the end of 2025, the Viva Academy aims to establish itself as the leading resource for immigrants seeking not just a green card but also a fulfilling and successful life in the United States.
