The annual research, State of Search Brazil 5 by Hedgehog Digital, an agency specialized in SEO, revealed that 62% of quick searches made on smartphones are to solve everyday doubts.
The study gathered responses from over 4,000 people and showed a similar percentage to last year’s research, which, when asked the same question, received 63% of responses for ‘searching for everyday doubts.’
With 21% of responses, the survey showed that people use smartphone/tablet search engines to learn a new skill or knowledge. In general, the results presented for the question ‘what type of search do you perform on your smartphone/tablet’ were:
- Quick, for everyday doubts – 62%
- To learn a new skill/knowledge – 21%
- Academic/School-related – 9%
- To learn more about a specific phenomenon – 6%
- Others – 2%
Among the respondents, text-based searches on smartphones/tablets dominated with 88%, while image-based searches—whether by uploading or taking a photo—had 13%, and voice searches, with a drop compared to the previous study, had 13%.
Additionally, respondents in the State of Search Brazil 5 reported increased use of smartphones and tablets in daily life.
Among people over 50, 68% believe there has been an increase in usage, while young people aged 16 to 24 reported a 50% increase in daily smartphone use.
The present and future of searches
State of Search Brazil 5 also asked Brazilians about the quantity, quality, and ease of searches they performed in the last 12 months and how they believe it will be in the next year.
The results showed that 6 in 10 people believe they will perform more qualified searches, and 67% think it will be easier to find what they need, anticipating an overall improvement in search engine results.
Thus, we can predict that the general public expects to perform even more searches on their smartphones and believes search engines will continue evolving, providing answers aligned with their future queries.
