3 Trends for the Technology Market in 2025

SUSE, a global provider of innovative, reliable, and secure open-source enterprise solutions, has analyzed industry trends and identified three developments set to transform the technology market by 2025. Focused on innovation through open-source solutions, digital resilience, and sustainability, these predictions reflect the growing needs of organizations amid accelerated digital transformation and high operational demands.

OpenTelemetry will gain more traction

OpenTelemetry will solidify its position as the standard for telemetry data collection, being adopted not only by open-source project contributors but also by major commercial players. ‘Open source provides a unified and standardized approach to collecting and exporting telemetry data, eliminating dependence on proprietary tools,’ explains Marcos Lacerda, Latin America General Manager at SUSE.

OpenTelemetry is one of the most active projects under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), the same organization responsible for Kubernetes (container technology that optimizes data space management) and Prometheus (open-source application used for event monitoring and alerting).

Strengthening Digital Resilience

In 2024, we witnessed major technological disruptions worldwide, such as the global service outage in July caused by a security company. This pattern of disruptions is likely to continue, prompting businesses to implement IT strategies to withstand, adapt to, and recover from such events. ‘Incidents like the major disruptions we saw in 2024 highlight the importance of robust IT strategies. Companies need to invest in digital resilience to ensure business continuity, even in the face of unexpected incidents. Reducing dependency on a single solution, implementing alternative stacks, adopting monitoring practices, and using a multivendor approach to provide options for critical software—such as operating systems and Kubernetes—are essential steps to minimize risks and safeguard critical operations,’ emphasizes Lacerda.

Operational Environment for Artificial Intelligence

Today, there are several options for running GenAI and other types of AI workloads. Over time, most businesses are expected to adopt a standard operational environment for AI use cases. This environment will include a highly scalable common AI platform that provides the necessary modules and services.

A standard operational environment ensures consistent governance, streamlined workflows, and optimized resource usage, also contributing to reduced CO2 emissions. ‘It also helps address challenges like the lack of uniform infrastructure across countries, creating conditions for consistent and scalable AI implementation throughout Latin America. This approach not only accelerates the development of local solutions but also strengthens the global competitiveness of regional businesses,’ concludes Lacerda.
