Mercado Livre, the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America, announces the launch of the “Digital Products” vertical – a new business front that enables the purchase of 100% online items with immediate delivery, reinforcing its presence in the gaming universe. The initiative represents a strategic expansion move by the company, initially focusing on gift cards, subscriptions, and credits for platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, as well as services like Game Pass and Fortnite.
“Mercado Livre is already recognized as one of the main shopping destinations for the gaming universe, offering a wide assortment of products for this audience. With the launch of the new category, we take an important step to further strengthen this presence, expanding our value proposition in digital entertainment. This is an offering that combines speed, convenience, and security in a fully integrated experience, from purchase to real-time delivery,” says Gonzalo Greco, Marketplace Director of Mercado Livre.
The launch comes at a time of strong growth in the sale of gaming products on the platform. In the first quarter of 2025, the sales volume (GMV) of these items increased by 42% compared to the same period in 2024. This result also reflects the advance of new buyers in the technology category as a whole, which saw a 27% increase during the period. This performance was driven by factors such as high purchase recurrence, especially among Generation Z, high average ticket size, and fast deliveries.
Since the start of testing the “Digital Products” vertical, PlayStation and Nintendo Gift Cards have been among the best-selling products, highlighting the advancement of digitalization in gaming content consumption. These items complement the offering of consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 (Digital and Physical) and Xbox Series S, which led the sales volume in the category during the first quarter of this year, and the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 (on June 5), reinforcing Mercado Livre’s capability in relevant global gaming industry launches.
Gaming Week with discounts of up to 50%
To continue engaging with this audience, the company is promoting, starting June 16, another edition of Gaming Week, an initiative that brings together a comprehensive curation of products from the gaming ecosystem with discounts of up to 50% on consoles, peripherals, and accessories – such as headsets, keyboards, computer components, and laptops. The initiative is part of the company’s strategy to establish itself as the go-to destination for gamers in Latin America.
