In recent years, the Brazilian Postal Service has seen e-commerce giants gain ground in the country’s logistics sector. Platforms like Amazon, Shopee, and Mercado Livre have stood out with advanced systems that have won consumer preference.
Additionally, the state-owned company’s financial difficulties have been worsening. In 2024, the company recorded a 780% increase in losses compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, a new development promises to change the scenario in the coming months. In partnership with Infracommerce, the Mais Correios service was launched with the goal of offering more innovative and efficient customer service, potentially helping the company overcome the crisis.
New service bets on modernization and nationwide reach
Mais Correios is part of the Correios do Futuro project. The main objective is to make operations more versatile, enabling a service better suited to and closer to the needs of Brazilian consumers.
One of the planned changes is to ensure access to postal services from any city in the country. Currently, the service faces limitations in some regions, especially the more remote ones, and the expectation is to expand this coverage.
To achieve this, Mais Correios leverages the company’s national infrastructure, taking advantage of its status as a state-owned company with a presence throughout the territory. Internally, the projection is that this will be an advantage over the private sector, which has more logistical restrictions.
According to Fabiano Silva, president of the Postal Service, security will be one of the main pillars of the new platform, with planned investments in rigorous measures. Additionally, the promise is to offer affordable shipping to consumers.
Another aspect is the development of a practical and easy-to-navigate website. According to Hostinger, a specialist in website creation, this factor is essential today, as consumers increasingly prioritize convenience when making purchases.
The launch date for Mais Correios has not yet been announced, but it is expected to go live in the first half of 2025.
Postal Service attempts to reverse financial crisis
The change comes amid a delicate financial landscape. According to the Ministry of Management and Innovation, the Postal Service has accumulated a deficit of R$3.2 billion in 2024.
Faced with this situation, the state-owned company’s administration conducted an analysis to assess the continuity of operations. As a result, a plan was drawn up with the following objectives: strengthen its role in e-commerce, win over the public sector, and seek tax credits.
Additionally, recent data indicates that taxation on international purchases has also impacted the service. It is estimated that the Postal Service lost R$2.2 billion due to tax changes.
Logistics grows in Brazil and opens opportunities
A study released by Loggi showed the current logistics scenario in Brazil, based on data from the first quarter of this year. According to the survey, there is an order placed every seven seconds, showing the high demand for e-commerce in the country.
In the period analyzed alone, 18 million deliveries were made nationwide. Additionally, around 20,000 companies participated in this movement, with the clothing and fashion sector leading preferences.
Although competition in the market is intense, the scenario may present an opportunity for the Postal Service. With the advantage of being a state-owned service that benefits from incentives and a high level of trust, the launch of an updated platform emerges as a potential solution to tackle the crisis and reposition the company in the market.
