The Federal Express Corporation, the largest express transportation company in the world, is incorporating 27 electric vehicles into its Brazilian fleet, now totaling 52 units with zero emissions. The new vans, the Mercedes Benz eSprinter Street 320 model, are being assigned to FedEx stations in the cities of Sumaré (SP), Curitiba (PR), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Betim (MG), and São Paulo (SP).
The electrification of the entire collection and delivery fleet is one of the pillars guiding the company’s global goal to offset the carbon from its operations by 2040. FedEx is the pioneering cargo company in acquiring electric cars in Brazil, with the first units arriving in the country in 2013. Currently, the local electric fleet of the company includes vans and motorcycles, used especially for last-mile deliveries and in areas with heavy traffic.

Implementing cleaner technologies in facilities and fleet
To help power its growing fleet of electric vehicles, FedEx is working to expand the use of renewable energy sources worldwide. In Brazil, the company is installing solar panels and expanding its participation in the Free Energy Market. In the fiscal year 2025 (FY25), ending in May 2025, the FedEx unit in Serra (ES) started operating with solar panel technology, while the facilities in Cajamar (SP) and São Paulo (SP) migrated to the Free Energy Market.
Currently, FedEx’s Brazilian operation has 12 units using renewable energy: Belo Horizonte, Campo Grande, Joinville, Petrolina, Simões Filho, and Vitória use solar panels; Belo Horizonte, Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Fortaleza, Recife, São Paulo, and Cajamar are in the Free Energy Market.
While working to expand the use of electric vehicles, the company is also focused on improving the efficiency of its combustion fleet during this transition period by replacing older and less efficient vehicles with newer models, including those with Euro 6 engines that emit fewer pollutants. As a result of these efforts, FedEx’s ground fleet vehicles in Brazil have an average age of seven years, making it one of the newest fleets in the market.
