Recently, the Senate approved the Bill (PL) that regulates the carbon credit market in Brazil, compensating companies that reduce emissions and penalizing the more polluting ones. To assist in aligning with the proposal and in developing a decarbonization strategy, theWillGreentech, which develops and simplifies the calculation of companies' environmental impact, launched the masterclass "Greenhouse Gas Inventory". Registrations are already open, and the course will be available online starting December 29.
Until this day, managers and professionals in the sustainability field can register for free, as the company also aims to promote access to education on the topic and showcase the intuitive usability of its software in the class. The idea is to show participants how to compile greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventories, the first step towards establishing a low-carbon economy. With this mapping, it is possible to identify where the major pollution sources are and, consequently, the sectors that should be prioritized to reduce environmental impacts.
The course is produced by Ricardo Dinato and Jéssica Campanha, specialists in the GHG Protocol, an internationally recognized standard for accounting and reporting GHG emissions. The set of guidelines is one of the world's major references for sustainability reporting in companies, and it has even been adapted for the national corporate context in the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program.
"This masterclass was carefully built with a team of experts to teach companies how to be more sustainable in business," says Isabela Basso, co-founder of Zaya. "GHG inventories are essential tools for defining clear carbon neutrality strategies, which contribute to process optimization, resource savings, alignment with environmental certifications, and highlighting the commitment to the planet's future to clients and investors," he concludes.
Course structure
With more than two hours of duration, the course is divided into two modules. The first consists of five lessons, which provide an overview of what an inventory is, its formats within companies, and its importance in the corporate sector. In this stage, for example, it is taught to distinguish Scope 1 (direct emissions from operations), Scope 2 (indirect emissions resulting from the use of the company's own electricity), and Scope 3 (indirect emissions from operations).
The second one offers a more practical approach, with a step-by-step guide on how to prepare the document. This section includes explanatory videos about the key concepts of CO2 quantification and scopes in the daily operations of organizations, as well as what each category is and where to find data for emission accounting.
