Criteo comments on Google’s decision not to discontinue third-party cookies in Chrome

A CRITEO, a global commerce media company, issued the following official statement regarding Google’s announcement about the use of third-party cookies in the Chrome browser:

“On Monday (22), Google announced its new path for Privacy Sandbox on the web. In the announcement, Google plans to continue supporting third-party cookies with Chrome user consent and will not proceed with its original plan to completely discontinue third-party cookies. This new proposal is subject to consultation with regulators such as the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Based on our recently published Privacy Sandbox testing results, we welcome this news on behalf of the entire ecosystem.”

Our Privacy Sandbox tests showed that the current version does not fully meet publishers’ needs, with a projected revenue decline of up to 60% if third-party cookies were discontinued today. However, improvements suggested by Criteo to enhance the effectiveness of Privacy Sandbox have been partially implemented by Google, and we remain committed to helping close the remaining gaps through our partnership and ongoing tests.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Google to ensure a healthy and sustainable advertising ecosystem”.
