Most of the texts on trends in logistics for 2025 that you will read will follow a similar line between them. If you give me the chance to guess, I venture to say that they will talk about data, artificial intelligence and sustainability. I prefer to start with a different premise: one of the main trends in cargo transportation for 2025 is the change 'in progress ' of the vision that a good part of companies have today about logistics.
Who did not understand this new vision has already begun to fall behind. Although it seems utopian, thinking about the logistics strategy going forward requires imagining a future in which all the trucks in the fleet that serves your company will always travel full. When making a delivery, they will have another marked on the agenda, will add intelligence to the choice of loads. No kilometer will be traveled in vain. Every driver can deliver more using fewer resources. This is the new parameter.
Although so far no one has achieved the desired 100% of use, this type of vision is at least a good north. Yes, it is a new road. The vision of running with the truck always full is driven by teams with deep knowledge about the transport routine, who use their experience to innovate, restructure freight as the new times and make digitalization one of their high performance tools.
Of course there are obstacles. According to estimates of the Brazilian market, trucks still run empty on average between 30% and 40% of their time. Organizations have realized, however, that there is no alternative to remain competitive in the market except to embrace a new vision on logistics. It has become more evident the difference between companies that stopped in the analog and those who have been able to incorporate changes to make a leap in service level, agility and cost reduction.
Therefore, I do not like to say that technology is a trend for 2025. Year by year technology fits into this category, it is nothing new. According to McKinsey, only 13% of organizations in Brazil that have digitized part of their supply chains can take advantage of the full potential of what they have deployed. So, the technology has arrived, and what was the consequence of it?
If in many cases the results of the arrival of technological resources have not yet reached their peak, I observe within companies that there is a greater perception of the need to organize to expand the effects of innovation.
There is an awareness that we need to involve freight experience, review and simplify processes, empower people, resume the strategy of freight transport within organizations and, with a systemic view, encompass everything that can generate operational efficiency in logistics. That is: never lose sight of the possibility of running with the full truck all the time.
The new vision about logistics is what makes us better understand the role of sustainability on the Road as well. Encourage sustainable intelligence with solutions that are already born with reduced impacts, helping to consume less fuel, generate less harmful gases for the environment and increase the quality of life of professionals involved in logistics. More trend than sustainability itself is the new vision of logistics, which can not exist without these principles.
Has your company changed its vision of logistics?
