Aftershoot launches AI Retouch, a new tool for image adjustments

A Aftershoot launches early the new tool for AI portrait editing, AI Retouch, which helps photographers apply realistic and high-quality adjustments to images. With unlimited selection and editing features available on the platform, the new functionality – previously restricted to a group of users – is now available for free to all professionals until September 2025.

The AI tool was developed to simplify one of the most time-consuming post-production steps: portrait retouching. This feature is responsible for tasks such as skin texture correction, imperfections removal, reflections in glasses, and unwanted objects removal. With significantly reduced time spent on retouching, photographers can deliver quality work faster and use offline time to focus on creativity, personal life, client relationships, and business growth.

According to a survey conducted by Aftershoot in 2025, around 63% of Brazilian photographers already use AI tools in the workplace. Among the professionals surveyed, 85% say that image editing is the main stage where AI can speed up the process and save time, and 77% state they would prefer to use this extra time to dedicate themselves to family, friends, and personal hobbies.

At a time when artificial intelligence is transforming the creative market, tools like AI Retouch point towards a future that seeks to combine technological efficiency with quality of life for professionals.

With the AI Retouching feature, we continue our mission to help photographers reclaim their time by enabling the delivery of high-quality professional portraits faster and with consistent results. Traditionally, the editing stage has always been slow and laborious in the photographers’ workflow. Now, professionals can focus on what really matters instead of spending hours in front of a screen,” says Justin Benson, co-founder of Aftershoot.

Whether in individual portraits or group photos, editing adjustments are applied with detailed precision, down to the pixel level, preserving the natural texture of the skin and an authentic look. Some of the key features of the retouching tool include:

  • Skin Smoothing (Face and Body): enhances skin texture and evens out skin tone, maintaining natural details — even in photos with multiple people.
  • Imperfection Removal: corrects areas affected by acne and spots, creating a uniform and natural look.
  • Wrinkle Reduction: smoothes wrinkles and expression lines on the forehead, dark circles, and smile lines, preserving the natural look of the face and leaving the skin revitalized.
  • Facial Enhancement: identifies and enhances specific areas of the face, reduces excessive shine, and increases eye sharpness.
  • Glasses Glare Removal: eliminates glares while accurately reconstructing eye and facial details.
  • Flyaway Hair Removal: eliminates stray hairs without altering the volume or shape of the hairstyle.
  • Teeth Whitening: enhances the natural brightness of the teeth, with a realistic appearance and no exaggeration.
  • Object Removal: when using the Patch tool, a correction tool, professionals imperceptibly remove unwanted objects without compromising the image details.
  • Selective Person Retouching: allows adjustments to be applied to specific individuals in a photo, ensuring customized edits tailored to each person.
  • Customizable Presets: users can save editing preferences or use ready-made presets from Aftershoot to maintain a consistent professional style.
  • Scale Retouching: retouch an image and sync adjustments across all photos for quick and consistent results.
  • Correction Tool: allows removal of the editing mask in specific areas, preserving original details as needed.

“Photographers told us two things: portrait retouching takes too long and often looks artificial. We created this functionality to solve these two problems: quick, unlimited, and authentic-looking retouches. Our models were trained to deal with real situations, such as reflections, skin texture, and stray hairs, always giving photographers full control over the results. Our goal is to provide a faster and more consistent workflow for them to deliver work they are proud of,” comments Harshit Dwivedi, founder and CEO of Aftershoot.
