Petz recovers millions in sales and raises approval of payments with tokenization technology

A Petz, one of the largest pet shop networks in Brazil, announced a significant jump in the efficiency of its digital channel after implementing a new payment method strategy Mastercard, made possible by the payment orchestrator Yun, the retailer has managed to increase its sales approval rate by more than 5 Percentage points (p.p.) compared to traditional operations.

The move resulted in the recovery of millions of dollars in revenue that were previously lost due to checkout failures, such as refusals on suspicion of fraud or issues with expired and blocked cards.

The“ Involuntary”Churn Challenge”

The Brazilian e-commerce scenario continues to be heated. Projections of the Brazilian Electronic Commerce Association (ABComm) indicate a billing close to R$ 235 billion in 2025, with the use of cards moving R$ 2.2 trillion only in the first half, according to Abecs.

However, with the high volume of transactions, the challenge of involuntary“churn” grows too when a customer wants to buy, but is barred by technical payment issues.

“For us, the customer experience is a fundamental value and every interaction needs to be simple, fast and safe. Checkout is a critical moment, and any failure can lead to withdrawal of purchase and frustration of the” consumer, he explains Andre Casini, Financial Planning and Treasury Manager at Petz.

How technology works

To mitigate these losses, Petz used the tokenization. This technology replaces the sensitive data of the customer's card with a unique code (token). In addition to increasing security against fraud, the solution allows the automatic updating of credentials. That is, if the customer's card expires or is reissued by the bank, the token is automatically updated in the store system, ensuring that the recurring purchase or new transaction is not declined.

Implementation was carried out through the Yun, Global payment orchestration platform. Second Walter Campos, Yuno General Manager for Latin America, the integration focused on turning the checkout into a competitive advantage: “A activation of Mastercard's tokenization solution is a clear example of how technology can generate efficiency and business results immediately”.

Future Vision

The results of Petz reinforce a market trend Mastercard it sees technology as a central pillar for the future of retail, with the global goal of tokenizing 100% of transactions by 2030.

“Tokenization brings more security, trust and efficiency, eliminating barriers that often prevent the completion of the” purchase, he highlights Leonardo Linares, senior vice president of Customer Solutions at Mastercard Brazil.

With the new structure, Petz not only stopped the loss of revenue, but consolidated its digital operation in a market where competition for efficiency and user experience becomes increasingly fierce.
