Monday's (6th) assembly solidified the transfer of control over the Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA) board of directors to the Coelho Diniz family from Minas Gerais, concluding a 13-year period of dominance by the French group Casino.
The new board, composed of nine members, now has a majority formed by representatives linked to the family and strategic allies.
For the lawyer Ramiro Becker, founding partner of Becker Advogados, considers the change a significant milestone in corporate governance:
“This move concentrates the effective control of the board, the most important decision-making body of a company, with the Coelho Diniz family. This means that key strategic definitions, such as investments, divestments, and executive hiring, will now be conducted directly under their leadership.”
According to Becker, the repositioning represents “an inflection point in GPA's power center, which moves away from foreign influence to consolidate national command.”.
