FedEx adds new electric collection and delivery vehicles to Brazilian operation

Federal Express Corporation, the largest express transport company in the world, is incorporating 27 electric vehicles into its Brazilian fleet, with 52 units with zero emission. The new vans, model Mercedes Benz eSprinter Van Street 320, are being destined for FedEx stations in the cities of Sumare (SP), Curitiba (PR), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Betim (MG) and Sao Paulo (SP).

The electrification of the entire collection and delivery fleet is one of the pillars that guide the company's global goal to neutralize the carbon of its operations by 2040. FedEx is the pioneer cargo company in the acquisition of electric cars in Brazil, with the first units arriving in the country in 2013. Currently, the company's local electric fleet has vans and motorcycles, used especially for last mile deliveries and in regions with heavy traffic.

“Na FedEx, we believe that economic growth and sustainability must go together”, comments Camila Lima, vice president of FedEx Operations in Brazil.“We are focused on adopting technically feasible and economically sustainable solutions that increase efficiency and contribute to reducing emissions, without compromising the quality of service. Working smarter, with a focus on energy efficiency, also represents a concrete opportunity to generate savings and strengthen our operational network”.

“The electrification of the FedEx fleet, now with the inclusion of eSprinter, is a concrete example of our commitment to the transformation of urban and road transport”, says Fabio F. Silva, head of Vans Sales at Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans Brazil. “With high performance, application versatility and zero emissions, the electric Sprinter offers a robust and intelligent solution for sustainable logistics operations. In addition to providing vehicles, we want to be protagonists of a clean, efficient and economically viable mobility. This collaboration reinforces the alignment between two global brands that share the vision of a more efficient and environmentally responsible future.

Implementing cleaner technologies in facilities and fleet

To help power its growing fleet of electric vehicles, FedEx is working to expand the use of renewable energy sources worldwide. In Brazil, the company is installing solar panels and expanding its share in the Free Energy Market. In fiscal year 2025 (FY25), ended in May 2025, the FedEx plant in Serra (ES) started operating with solar panel technology, while the Cajamar (SP) and Sao Paulo (SP) facilities migrated to the Free Energy Market.

Currently, the Brazilian operation of FedEx has 12 units that use renewable energy: Belo Horizonte, Campo Grande, Joinville, Petrolina, Simoes Filho and Vitoria use solar panels; Belo Horizonte, Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Fortaleza, Recife, Sao Paulo and Cajamar are in the Free Energy Market.

While working to expand the use of electric vehicles, the company is also focused on improving the efficiency of its fleet to combustion during this transition period, replacing older and less efficient vehicles with newer models, including those with Euro 6 engines, which emit fewer pollutants. As a result of these efforts, FedEx ground fleet vehicles in Brazil have an average age of seven years, which makes it one of the newest fleets on the market.
