Greentech Launches Online Course on Conducting Inventories to Reduce Carbon Emissions

The Senate recently approved the Bill (PL) regulating the carbon credit market in Brazil, compensating companies that reduce emissions and penalizing the more polluting ones. To assist in adapting to the proposal and creating a decarbonization strategy, Zaya, a greentech that develops and simplifies the calculation of companies' environmental impact, has launched the masterclass "Greenhouse Gas Inventory." Registrations are now open, and the course will become available online on December 29.

Until this date, managers and sustainability professionals can register for free, as the company also aims to promote access to education on the topic and demonstrate the intuitive usability of its software during the class. The idea is to show participants how to compile Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission inventories, the first step towards establishing a low-carbon economy. This mapping makes it possible to identify the largest sources of pollution and, consequently, the sectors that should be prioritized to reduce environmental impacts.

The course is produced by Ricardo Dinato and Jéssica Campanha, experts in the GHG Protocol, an internationally recognized standard for accounting and reporting GHG emissions. This set of guidelines is one of the world's leading references for producing corporate sustainability reports and has even been adapted for the national corporate context in the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program.

"This masterclass was carefully developed by a team of experts to teach companies how to be more sustainable in their business," says Isabela Basso, co-founder of Zaya. "GHG inventories are fundamental tools for defining clear carbon neutrality strategies, which contributes to process optimization, resource savings, alignment with environmental certifications, and highlighting the commitment to the planet's future to customers and investors," she adds.

Course Structure
Lasting over two hours, the course is divided into two modules. The first consists of five lessons, which provide an overview of what an inventory is, its formats within companies, and its importance in the corporate sector. This stage teaches, for example, how to distinguish between Scope 1 (direct emissions from operations), 2 (indirect emissions from the company's own electricity use), and 3 (indirect emissions from operations).

The second module takes a more practical approach, with a step-by-step guide on how to prepare the document. This section includes explanatory videos on the key concepts of CO2 quantification and scopes in the daily operations of organizations, as well as what each of the categories entails and where to find data for emission accounting.

For more information and to register for free during Zaya's Black Friday period, the Green Week Zaya (after this date, the full course price will be R$200), simply access this link.
