Less than 20% of MEIs turn to accountant services, research reveals

A survey conducted by MaisMei showed that only 17% of managers who opt for this taxation regime seek services from accounting professionals. The most demanded services are tax returns (53,22%), followed by invoice issuance (22,63%). Although less demanded, business tips (8,62%) and financial planning (5,71%) also appear as a market opportunity for accountants and accounting offices.

The survey analyzed 5,640 microentrepreneurs registered in the company's application, which is intended to assist and perform management tasks of MEI, to understand the average profile of these managers.

Kalyta Caetano, head of Accounting at MaisMei, evaluates that the scenario can be positive, depending on the point of view, but that the low demand for professionals who help when organizing finances is worrying. “We know that the taxation regime of MEI was thought to be more accessible in terms of costs and simplified bureaucratic tasks. Considering this, we can understand that most of them are able to perform these tasks on their own, but it is always more prudent to have the help of a professional to evaluate aspects such as monthly average billing, so as not to exceed the annual ceiling (currently in R$81 thousand); and regularization of contributions.

Within the cut of microentrepreneurs who use accounting services, 66% only do so when they need it.

“We realize that MEIs, in general, are more reactive. That is, they still do not see the services of accountants as a continuous and strategic partnership to anticipate challenges and seize opportunities. A good Accounting professional can help in improving business strategies, such as having an emergency reserve, and even better take advantage of the social security benefits of MEI”, reinforces Kalyta Caetano, remembering the ignorance of many managers in this last issue.

According to the same survey, 23,49% of the individual microentrepreneurs (MEI) of the country, almost a quarter, do not know that they have social security benefits such as temporary disability aid and even the right to retirement.
