Criteo comments Google's withdrawal from third-party cookies in Chrome

CRITEO, the global commerce media company, has issued the following official statement regarding the decision announced by Google regarding the use of third-party cookies in the Chrome browser:

this Monday (22), Google announced its new path to Privacy Sandbox on web. In the announcement, Google plans to continue supporting third-party cookies with the consent of the Chrome user and will not follow through with its original plan to fully discontinue third-party cookies. This new proposal is subject to consultation with regulators such as the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the Office of the Information Commissioner (ICO). Based on the results of our recently published Privacy Sandbox tests, we welcome this news on behalf of the entire ecosystem.

Our Privacy Sandbox tests they showed that the current version does not fully meet the needs of publishers, with a forecast of a drop of up to 60% in revenue if third-party cookies were discontinued today. However, the improvements suggested by Criteo to increase the effectiveness of Privacy Sandbox were partially implemented by Google, and we remain committed to helping close the remaining gaps through our partnership and ongoing testing.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Google to ensure a healthy and sustainable” advertising ecosystem.
