ABcripto and CVM launch a tool against investment fraud called Counterattack

The Brazilian Cryptoeconomics Association (ABcripto) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) are launching today, 11/10/2024, the ContraGolpe, an innovative tool aimed at the protection and education of investors. The goal is to help the public recognize potential investment frauds through a series of simple and objective questions.

ContraGolpe acts as a first line of defense, assessing fraud risk and issuing a report with educational guidance on key areas of concern. “ContraGolpe provides a valuable starting point for each user to investigate further and seek guidance from certified professionals. It is important to note that the tool does not guarantee the safety of the investment nor replace more detailed research by the investor,” says Bernardo Srur, CEO of ABcripto.

Nathalie Vidual, Superintendent of Investor Guidance and Sustainable Finance (SOI) at CVM, emphasizes the importance of the tool in the field of financial education. “The launch of the ‘ContraGolpe’ tool reinforces CVM’s commitment to promoting financial education and keeping up with innovation in the capital market. In the face of a technologically evolving landscape, it is essential to provide mechanisms that empower investors to recognize potential frauds and make safer and more informed decisions. We will continue to expand these initiatives, aiming to protect and educate the public, creating a safer, transparent, and reliable investment environment for all,” highlighted Nathalie Vidual.

The initiative was launched during the World Investor Week 2024 (WIW), an event promoted by IOSCO (International Organization of Securities Commissions). The campaign runs until 13/10, and the complete programme can be accessed on the official agenda at https://semanadoinvestidor.cvm.gov.br/eventos/.

The World Investor Week is coordinated by CVM within the framework of the IOSCO Retail Investors Committee (Committee 8 – C8) and promoted in over 100 member countries of the organization. WIW was launched in 2017 as a pilot project after the proposal from CVM to develop a global campaign for investor protection and education.

The project is part of the cooperation agreement between ABCripto and CVM, aimed at expanding financial education in Brazil and developing educational campaigns on new financial technologies such as blockchain, cryptoeconomics, and decentralized finance (DeFi). The collaboration between the institutions also includes the development of studies and initiatives focused on financial and regulatory innovation.

The Counterattack is now available to investors from all areas as an educational guide on this link, offering additional security in an increasingly dynamic and complex market.
