Great Place To Work®, a global consultancy working with the mission to build a better society by transforming every organization into a ‘Great Place To Work for All,’ has just released the 11th edition of the award for the 60 Best Companies To Work For in the Retail ranking. The winners were divided into four categories: Small, Medium, Large, and Super Large.
The winning companies are distributed across 12 Brazilian states, with the southeast region standing out with 28 awarded companies, and they have, on average, 41 years of existence.
One highlight of the study is that among the 60 companies awarded in 2024, the hybrid work model, which combined in-person and remote work, remained at 77%, just like in the 2023 edition. Meanwhile, the practice of reduced working hours saw a slight decline in both years analyzed, from 17% in 2023 to 15% in 2024, indicating that this initiative is still offered by a limited portion of companies.
The proportion of organizations offering flexible hours to employees grew from 67% in 2023 to 73% in 2024, indicating a positive trend toward allowing greater autonomy for employees. On the other hand, the offer of home office saw a slight decrease, from 80% in 2023 to 77% in 2024, which may reflect an adjustment in remote work policies as companies seek to balance in-person and remote practices. These data highlight the continuous adaptation of companies to meet employee needs while adjusting their flexibility strategies.
Another noteworthy point from the research is the profile of employees among the winning companies. There is strong female participation at 53%, but in top leadership roles, women occupy only 28%. Following this trend, among the CEOs of the awarded companies, 85% are men, reflecting low female representation at the highest leadership levels. This underscores the importance of implementing initiatives that promote gender equality and encourage women’s advancement to executive positions.
Regarding the adoption of mental health and well-being practices, these remained high, with 95% of the companies that earned the GPTW seal implementing these actions.
The study also shows that among the practices of companies when employees have children, 8% of the Best Companies To Work For offer maternity leave beyond the 120 days required by law. For paternity leave, the legally required period is 5 days, and 37% of the companies offer more time than this.
The GPTW survey shows that 35% of the awarded companies stood out in sustainability actions, a 7% increase compared to the 2023 study. Among the recognized companies, 17 are signatories of the UN Global Compact (United Nations), a globally recognized corporate sustainability initiative.
Regarding voluntary turnover in the awarded organizations, there was an increase from 14% in 2022 to 18% this year. Despite this increase, it’s important to note that these rates still represent low voluntary turnover compared to many organizations in this sector.
GPTW concluded in this year’s ranking that 67% of the companies use mentoring programs for employee development. However, there is a disparity compared to coaching programs, offered by only 23% of the companies.
When it comes to benefits, 55% of the GPTW Retail Best Companies To Work For offer scholarships for undergraduate or graduate courses, and 63% have a corporate university. Additionally, 33% of the awarded companies offer language courses, and 30% provide funds for employees to use in the development program of their choice.
