Bemobi, specializing in essential recurring payment solutions, announced the launch of Pix via proximity and is preparing its more than five thousand SmartPOS devices distributed throughout Brazil so that its clients can already receive payments through this method. Anticipating the Central Bank’s official schedule. The service is in the implementation phase for major energy distributors such as Light and Equatorial, and education providers like Grupo Salta.
Data from ABECS (Brazilian Association of Credit Card and Services Companies) indicates that 61% of consumers already regularly use proximity as a payment method. With Pix via proximity, consumers will have one more convenient option, enabling instant and contactless transactions.
Payment with Pix via proximity works similarly to digital wallet cards, like Google Pay. To make a payment, the customer simply brings their phone close to payment terminals, such as POS devices, and authorizes the transaction through authentication, such as biometric scanning.
‘The integration of new Pix functionalities is a fundamental pillar in Bemobi’s strategy, which is why we anticipated the Central Bank’s initiative and have already prepared our payment points for this method,’ says Gadner Vieira, Bemobi’s vice president of utilities and education. ‘For consumers, Pix via proximity reduces friction when making a payment, as it simplifies the process and eliminates steps like opening a banking app, which is required for QR Code payments. For businesses, besides being a fast and efficient option, it is an alternative that helps reduce delinquency,’ he concludes.
Two other functionalities that will revolutionize recurring essential service payments in the country are: Pix via Biometrics, which will optimize digital (online) Pix payment journeys, expected in the first quarter. And automatic Pix, where clients can schedule recurring bill payments without needing monthly confirmations, with an expected launch in June.
For Bemobi’s CTO/CPO, Felipe Goldin, the implementation of new technologies is a crucial step for the future of payments in Brazil. ‘The new functionalities represent a great opportunity for evolution toward a more digital and automated journey. Soon, this should significantly reduce the use of bank slips.’
‘Pix via proximity arrives to offer our clients one more practical and efficient payment option. We are excited to anticipate this functionality, which will bring more security and flexibility,’ says Baltazar Lira Araújo Junior, corporate executive of collection management and operations at Equatorial.
Traditionally, the recurring billing sector for essential services, such as energy, education, telecommunications, and healthcare, has predominantly used bank slips as the standard billing method. In a less digitalized and banked Brazil, this method played a fundamental role in billing basic services, serving a large portion of the population, whether banked or not. Over the past 5 years, Bemobi has specialized in recurring payments, initially supporting mobile operators with digital plans based on credit card billing. This focus and specialization have allowed Bemobi to develop technological platforms that optimize recurring payment collection conversion, reduce delinquency, and enhance customer loyalty.
