Spending by Brazilians during Easter grew by 14.29% in 2025, driven by extended holiday, reports Getnet

Getnet, a payment solutions technology company of the Santander-owned PagoNxt group, releases the performance data of Brazilian commerce during the Easter holiday. The survey, which compares the dates between the weekends of March 29-31, 2024, and April 18-20, 2025, shows a significant growth of 14.29% in the amount Brazilians spent across the country.

The result was primarily driven by the Wholesale sector in physical stores, which saw a 17.97% increase in the amount transacted during the period. This growth also reflected the strong performance of the Food Wholesale segment, which, in turn, showed an 8.72% increase.

Other sectors that stood out were Supermarkets/Hypermarkets, with a growth of 4.16%, and Fuel and Vehicle Gas Stations, which recorded a 12.52% increase, driven by travel during the extended holiday.

Despite the growth in the total transaction value, the number of purchases and sales showed a slight contraction of 1.36% compared to the previous year. However, the Wholesale segment followed the opposite trend, with a 1.53% increase in the number of transactions, mainly driven by Food Wholesale, which grew 11.67% in this indicator.

“This Easter, we observed an increase in spending but not in the number of items purchased for the occasion. This can be explained, on one hand, by the inflation of Easter eggs, which rose about 9%, and on the other hand, by the general increase in purchases, driven by the 4-day holiday. In summary, we had a modest Easter but with growth in spending and average ticket size, due to the extended holiday and increased travel during the period,” highlights Rodrigo Carvalho, Getnet’s analytics superintendent.
