Engaging Goals: 1 in 3 companies still fail to align objectives with strategy

The research “Trends and Challenges for Performance Management“, conducted by Qulture.Rocks — a leading company in the Brazilian market for performance management solutions and part of the UOL EdTech ecosystem — reveals valuable data about goal implementation in the corporate world.

According to the survey, 32.2% of organizations still face difficulties in aligning team goals with the company’s strategic objectives, which affects clarity, engagement, and execution effectiveness. Furthermore, the lack of alignment between goals and organizational objectives also hinders the achievement of results established in the company’s strategic planning.

Among the main recommendations from experts to ensure good goal implementation and management in any company is the idea of “cascading” or “deployment.” Rebecca Malzac Pontes, Operations Manager at Qulture.Rocks, explains this:

“The goal deployment process here at Qulture starts with a strategic planning session with the leadership of all areas, to ensure that all business fronts are included in this planning. We define the company’s objectives for that year and then cascade it down to the teams, ensuring that the entire organization is aligned with the company’s goals.”

According to the research, 25.1% of companies point to low engagement of teams in following goals, and 24.8% report difficulty in translating OKRs into individual and team goals. These numbers show the importance of a collective, transparent, and continuous building process, led by prepared managers closely connected to their teams.

In order for leadership to create engaging goals, technological support is essential. Whether with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence tools or specific goal management platforms, technology coupled with human capital is what drives engagement and enables the structuring of goals and OKRs.

“Here at Qulture, teams have the autonomy to update in real-time, track the objectives of other areas, and understand, as a whole, how the company is doing. We also use a strategic map tool, so the objectives of the areas end up aligning with each other. We know which objective from which area is contributing to the company’s macro objective,” states Rebecca Malzac.

A good goal implementation and management process is essential to stimulate other important stages of performance management, such as a culture of continuous feedback, recognition for goal achievement, and the promotion of technical and behavioral development of employees.
