Guilherme Enck’s new book shows how to invest in startups and ride the wave of innovation in Brazil

The book “How to Invest in Startups: From Theory to Practice – A Complete Manual to Start Safely” by Guilherme Enck, an expert in investments and entrepreneurship in Brazil, arrives in the book market at physical and online bookstores. Published by Editora Gente and with an official release scheduled for September this year, the work presents a practical and structured methodology for investing in startups, offering readers an accessible and reliable guide to ride the wave of innovation and entrepreneurship consolidating in Brazil. The book is already available for pre-sale, and those who purchase a copy before the release guarantee participation in the inaugural edition of the “Entrepreneur in 21 Days” challenge led by the book’s author.

A gaucho with a degree in Production Engineering and specialization in Engineering Management from Loughborough University (United Kingdom), Enck has built a solid trajectory in the financial market and entrepreneurship. He worked in mergers and acquisitions and founded several fintechs, standing out as a co-founder of Captable. This latter venture established itself as the largest startup investment platform in Brazil, enabling the raising of over R$ 100 million for about 60 companies. His experience is that of someone who “has been an entrepreneur since before leaving college,” reflecting his deep practical immersion in the sector.

At Captable, a venture responsible for introducing over 7,500 people to the startup investment universe, Enck also stood out as an educator: he conducted courses, lectures, and workshops aimed at helping savers of all profiles understand and leverage, methodically and safely, the opportunities in the innovation ecosystem.

All this trajectory gave rise to “How to Invest in Startups: From Theory to Practice – A Complete Manual to Start Safely,” whose major differentiator is being a practical and updated guide for Brazil’s complex reality, addressing local culture, economy, and laws. The work fills an editorial gap by offering a perspective from someone who has truly experienced the ecosystem, sharing authentic stories, successes, and, fundamentally, lessons learned from failures.

In a light and casual read, the content goes far beyond theory, delving into analysis methods, valuation, and portfolio strategies, always contextualized for the particularities of the national market. Among the topics covered, the “Power Law” stands out, demonstrating how success in Venture Capital can come from few but strategic and successful bets.

“Value generation is migrating from traditional structures to the innovation ecosystem. Everyone is experiencing this; just pay attention to all the tools and solutions we use daily. If the great epicenter of economic value creation is changing, it’s natural that we must adjust our way of investing. Those who insist on staying restricted only to the traditional financial market will let this wave pass,” declares Guilherme Enck.

He adds: “The time when investing in startups was only for large funds has passed. Every investor should have at least a small percentage of their assets allocated to these companies. My role is to teach them how to do this—but soberly, carefully, consistently, and adapted to the long-term nature of this asset class,” he concludes.

With “How to Invest in Startups: From Theory to Practice – A Complete Manual to Start Safely,” Enck not only informs but inspires, solidifying his position as an essential voice for those seeking to thrive in the innovation market and drive the growth of companies with real and lasting impact.

The author will donate all royalties from the book to the Fundação Tênis, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) without profit motives that has promoted the social transformation of children, adolescents, and young people in vulnerable situations for over two decades through sports and vocational training.
